du Toit, Duggie
Duggie du Toit preferred medium is oil and he describes his work as classical impressionism. He uses interesting themes: vegetables, fruit, old bottles, musical instruments, portrait and figure studies all done in beautiful rich colours.
He taught himself by doing intensive studies on the following artist’s techniques: John Singer, Anders Zorn, Rembrandt, Vermeer and Sorolla.
There is a striking uniqueness in his work. Duggie mastered the technique of using light and darkness in his paintings to create the image of something real and alive.
