Sdoya, Carlo
Carlo Sdoya (1914 – 1996) was a South African visual artist who was born in Rome. A painter of landscapes, still lifes and portraits, he worked in oils an charcoals and was popular for his work with palette knives.
He studied art in Rome from 1930 to 1937 and owned his own studio in Johannesburg from 1951 called the Da Vinci School of Fine Art in Johannesburg. He studied art with the likes of Durant Sihlali in 1955 and he mentored the artist Pieter Klaassen.
Numerous works by the artist have been sold and his work is very popular although little is written about him.
